Thumbs up EGR blanked 1.9 ZDTH Update

Well it's been a while and approx 4000 miles since I completely blanked the EGR valve on my 1.9 CDTi 150 and no problems whatsoever, the comments that the engine will run hotter etc have not occured and if anything it runs cooler!. My economy is still 47mpg, mix of motorway and urban driving and this is with a BSR remap and a stainless exhaust and de-cat from MiJ.

I still check things regularly with the code reader since my MIL light is on permenantly, but it's just P0400 EGR gas flow and nothing else.

I am due to go to Poland in just over a month, 1000 miles one way with a good thrashing across Germany and 84000 miles on the clock now, so this will be a good test which I will write about at the beginning of August when I get back by which time the car will have clocked up about 3000 miles in two weeks.

For anyone still considering wether to blank off the EGR valve altogether, I say DO IT!.

having read about the potential issues, this isn't a mod i'm considering for my cdti159. sounds like it's best left alone to me - but whoever owns a car can do as they please of course.
    best of luck.

You will read more potential issues about the egr yet you have read something that says your car is better with the egr? Please share it with us so we can all benefit, surely you would want others to benefit from your findings?

I disconnected the valve today to see what the outcome would be and tbh there wasn't much, BUT maybe the boost sensor needs cleaned or the valve is not fully closing.

3-0 - No problems here either with a fully blanked EGR.

Have you got evidence of faults occurring (to Fiat/VX/Saab CDTi's) directly due to having the EGR blanked / removed from the ECU...?

No, but then who has evidence for long term reliability of this mod on vauxhall engines. Nobody by the look of it.
Carry on, just don't expect everyone to do the same.

concerns have been raised about this alteration as you may be aware -- to me the concerns make sense, and i'm glad they were brought to light on this forum and from other sources so we can all make our own decision about it.
    that is all.
