    Default Diesel Particulate Filter

Please someone help me!! I have a 2006 Vec Estate (Design)
My DPF was blocked recently, I had it re-genned via tech 2. It is blocked again now after a few thousand miles ( spanner light/limp mode). A local garage has suggested not to change the DPF , as they are pricey, and it could be getting blocked due to some other running fault!

Any one any ideas PLEASE cos its cracking me up.

Could it be EGR problem causing this.

    Thanks a lot. Barry

From what I have read the DPF tends to clog when the car is not getting sufficient long hot runs when it can initiate a self regen, what kind of motoring do you tend to do as the trip point is when the engine registers over 3000rpm and has a long cycle of running like a motorway cruise as the regen takes about 20 minutes to complete, I read of one member here who stopped part way into the cycle and the heat from the exhaust system was baking!

On other avenues has the car been running well to this point? do you notice a drop in performance or MPG?

I'm having a smiliar issue, new egr and only 300 miles since the last regen and it back to going into limp mode but its only 50% saturated. I had changed egr gaskets which i'm going to put back but cruising at 70 in 6th gear is 2000 rpm and I let it do the full regen last time, the time before I stopped during a regen as I didn't know at the time that was what it was doing

Also to note is that a static DPF regen is no where near as good at cleaning it out as a moving/driving regen...

Mine became totally blocked to the point where the engine wouldn't run for more than 30 seconds, so couldn't force a regen. In the end i had it replaced with a straight pipe, and the DPF software removed from the ecu. It shouldn't cost more than £200 to do.

How did you get the dpf removed from the ecu ?
And a good thrashing every now and then would keep it clearer.

Thanks a lot people for the replies.
The car has been running great prior to this and I do regular 100 mile plus journeys so can't understand why it ain't cleaning itself.
I forgot to mention that is has covered a few miles for its age (85k), in 3 and a half years but does have a full main dealer service history, and I also had full cam belt kit fitted prematurely at 80k, just to be on the safe side.
I am booking it into a local independant Vauxhall specialist, they tell me for £45 they will establish the root cause of this blockage so fingers crossed they sort it and I don't end up re-mortgaging my house to pay the bill!!

That info is different to what I was told by Ian at MPG. A static regen done by Tech 2 sets the revs quite high and with the car not moving the DPF gets alot hotter and so cleans out better. When the cycle has finished the revs drop back down to normal. When mine was done Ian put the car outside to do this for two reasons, 1 fumes in the workshop and 2 the intense heat created by the stationery regen would melt the paint on his workshop floor. I was in the reception area but the stink was quite high in there and it turned my Stainless Tailpipes copper coloured which needed some good metel polish and elbow grease to make shiny again.
Since that time I have had numerous regens but when it starts and my journey is at a end I just park up and hold the revs at about 2500 and the DPF gets a good clear out

GODZILLA, its booked in for this coming saturday. I spoke to them yesterday and the lad mentioned something about a software update that is available which is linked to the DPF, but he has not got access to the update so it may be a job for Main Dealer. If this is the case, he reckons its around an hours labour (£80 ish). I will keep you updated. Cheers
