Exclamation oil smells and seems to be topping its self up

hi, im new to this so cud be a laugh! i would appreciate any help with trying to find out what is wrong with my 53 plate vectra 2.0 dti.

i checked the oil about a week ago and it was to the max mark on the dipstick and about half again over full, also the oil smells abit like diesel so i bought sum injector seals from the stealers and fitted them, i changed the oil at the same time and filled it to just under max but it has filled up again.

    any ideas????

i thank anybody in advance for trying to help

not too well upon the 2.o dti, but it could be fuel blowing by the pistons on the compression stroke (not good). Is the engine breathing heavily? this would indicate worn or broken piston rings. I am assuming that the water in the header tank isnt dissapearing, if the head gasket had gone it can end up in the sump under the oil.

Yep, you have a classic case of what is known as 'bore wash'. This is indeed where fuel gets past the compression and scraper rings on the piston and ends up mixing with the oil. It will have scored the cylinder wall to bits and the rings will have stuck with carbon deposits, to the piston. The only answer in this case is to have the engine stripped and rebored. Either that or a new lump. Sorry mate but either way, bore wash is EXPENSIVE!!!

Oh and welcome to the site.

not trying to scare by any means, i agree that 69k isnt high mileage, but just cant figure out how else diesel can be getting into the oil. a little black smoke isnt that bad, but would indicate excess fuel. as i said, i am not completely au fait with the 2.0 dti.
