Booked my car into my "local" VX dealership for them to inspect the steering and suspension (I didn't tell them what was wrong)
Initially they tried to "upsell me a service", not interested (not required for another 3 months / 10K miles), as they thought it might be cheaper...
The inspection took 20 minutes of ramp time
They confirmed what was reported in the MoT (which they never saw at any point)
There was play in both front steering arms, but not bad enough they need replacing
The nearside had a very small amount, the offside was worse but still not bad enough to be classed as "worn"
However, they had taken it on a roadtest and agreed the steering seemed to be rather imprecise
They also reported the Traction Control appeared not to be working corrertly
On return they rechecked the front suspension, but it was found to be acceptable with no play
Total charge up to this point was half an hours labour
I then instructed them to replace both "worn" parts, both sides
On completion they did another roadtest, and also confirmed the Traction Control was now working correctly (which had them a little baffled)
The dealership agreed, this may be what people are reporting, as they wouldn't normally replace these parts for such little play, however putting this with the traction control not working is quite often reported
The steering is vastly more precise and the difference with the Traction Control is very noticeable, no more slight wheel spin
