    Default Analogue to CAN conversion

It's a bit tricky as to which forum, I should post this thread on...
This forum, because my query pertains to a CAN audio system from a Signum, or one of the Cavalier Mk3 sites, as that is the model of car that the radio is fitted to.

I have noticed a few CAN experts popping up recently, so this is aimed at those guys.

    ANYWAY!!

I am running a vehicle without any CAN system, however I have fitted a full CAN infotainment system to it.
To achieve this, I have had to utilise a CIM module for ignition logic control and pop-up messages on my GID.
I also use a BCM to control functions and ambient temperature read-out.

I have a CD70 with sat nav and full audio functions.
Although BC is enabled, it does not work.
This is because I have no method of converting the analogue fuel computer values of my car to CAN format that my GID can understand.

I am guessing that I would need analogue inputs as follows: -

    ABS pulse for road speed
Fuel flow rate / Injection periode
    Fuel tank level

This is done via the main engine ECU in the Vectra / Signum, but I don't have much more space behind my glove box to fit in another module, which probably wouldn't work anyway.

Are there any experts who can advise on a method of doing this
I have seen items like CANverter by Ita (I think) and also F W Murphy do some interfaces, but not quite the configuration that I want.

Most CAN converter hardware, is to convert CAN to analogue, for driving after market radios etc.

Obviously I want to go the other way...
    Any suggestions apart from..
can't be done, or I'll take your radio off your hands for you.

Had I known previously, what I know now, then I would have fitted an NCDC 2013 from an Omega-B.

Over to you guys!! (and gals)

Of course this is possible, but it sounds like a very difficult task.

I assume this device is the one you are referring to. It looks like it might do the job, although you have the problem of knowing how to encode the CAN messages. Unfortunately this stuff is not publicly documented by Opel, so you'd have to reverse engineer it yourself.

    Good luck!

Yes, that's one of them, however this one below appears to be better, but I would probably need to use all their sensors etc for it to be accurate

I'm not desperate to do this, but it would be nice to find a cheap and simple solution.

This is the wiring diagram for it.

I don't think J1939 is used on Vectra; I think it's used on heavy vehicles, i.e trucks.

I don't know that much about the Vectra-C CAN system, I've been quite lucky so far, just twonking about with various modules from a 2003 Vectra / Signum.
Only other way, is to link up all my inputs to a Vectra engine ECU.
Possibly a 1.6 or 1.8 petrol, and then allow it to "learn" what my car does.
Hopefully it may (but not likely) give some reasonable figures on the BC screen.

    Who knows...I don't lol
