    Question Siggy nearside rear brakelight

Well, where do I start, I am a retired electrician and am beat with a rear brakelight fault. I have had this '55 reg. facelift model 1.8 Elegance for 20 months or so, np's. A few weeks ago, I have the inbuilt sat nav and it gave me a warning saying the rear brakelight was off, this warning comes on the satnav everytime I switch on the ignition, sure enough it was so I removed the nearside rear lamp and the bulb was ok, but here's the rub, the socket to the assembly has no cable in it ?? thought it was a bad dream, but there you are it is not wired, it must have worked as it has had 2 mot's and the warning has never been on?

That's not the brake light bulb you've removed, that's the fog light bulb. On the Signum/Vectra C, and many other cars, only the offside rear fogs are wired in as only one rear fog is required by law.

If you're getting a brake light warning, but brake lights are actually fine, it's more than likely meaning that it's about to go. As the filament, or even the solder bit on the base, starts to deteriorate the resistance can alter just enough to make the system think the bulb has gone.
