Default Cat C Signum - info?

Hi folks, I joined this evening on the recommendation from a friend

I've been looking for a 1.9 cdti (either 120 or 150 I'm not fussed) and there is a 3.0 cdti in Luton that keeps appearing in my autotrader searches.... my mrs said she saw it a few months back too as its a fairly memorable advert in terms of the piccies being outside a DFS etc.
Anyway its a cat c repair, looks very nice at that. But with all forums I was wondering if its 'infamous' as its not sold in a long time (the photos are of a very nice looking end of summer day)

Any info would be great, and if it helps I can chuck the plate up if needed

There's a few links posted to check up on vehicle history, dvla details etc, if you run a site search, sure you'll find them

Best bet is to post up a link of the said car mate. I did this on a dodgy looking Vec VXR a couple of weeks ago and we all found problems with it without even going to view the car.

I doubt anybody would try to pinch your deal on here, so it would be the best place to start. A lot of knowledgeable people here who will be more than willing to help.

Pictures usually say a million words, as reliable as the seller may be.

Nice looking motor that. Sure is a beast. Any idea what the damage was to put it on a Cat-C?

The only think that jumps out to me at this stage is the rear tow eye cover is missing....indicating it was either towed onto a trailer from the rear with front damage, or it had rear damage and they couldnt get a bumper with the cover???

Have you been to see it, spoken to the seller?

not yet, I'm going to call them later and try to get as much out as possible.

I saw a cat D signum on a salvage site yesterday and it had all 4 wheels naffed, and the front pax wheel/suspension/driveshaft rotated 180deg and looked very sorry for itself, so the cat c thing is a but of a concern in tat respect. I have no problems with a registered car if its been fixed ok, but this one appears to ahve been forsale for a LONG time. Will see what the 'dealer' says

It would not bother me.. i jus read about car that was listed as Cat C for having brake fluid poured all over it, therefore considered an insurance write off as they did not want to pay for a respray..

One of my cars was a Cat C and I have no problem with at all, it was well fixed and vosa cleared, was a bargain to be honest and we will be keeping it for years to come.

The best thing you can do is speak with the dealer, find out why is was a Cat C and what was done to fix it, find out when it was registered and how long since then it has been back on the road. Tbh being a vauxhall you will probably have to replace pretty much all of the suspension over a period of time, so if its been done already you will certainly save a few quid.

People see 'Cat C' or 'D' and run a mile without checking it out properly and therefore miss a bargain..

I would also bargain for a better price....

TBH a car that old with that many miles, you could probably pick up a non-damaged car for near enough the same.
