    Default Engine Tempreture Guage Issue!

    Hi all,

Got an issue with my 1.8vvt vectra. The tempreture guage is not reading hot when it should. The most it goes up to is to just above zero. When i turn the fans on they are blowing hot but not as hot as they should be.
However when i turn the engine off and back on to the ignition lights the tempreture guage reads as normal i.e. 90. I have also noticed at this point that the light with the car and the spanner stays illuminated untill I turn the engine on, at this point it goes off.

Any help with this much appreciated, thanks.

Coolant Temperature Sensor. Had similar issue on my VVT and this was cured by fitting a replacement.

Sounds very much like a faulty connection "somewhere". A big somewhere!!! I suggest that you raise the bonnet and disconnect and re-connect all the connector blocks that are both visible and "invisible". That includes the large ones by the ABS block and all of the small ones as the fault could be anywhere. Good luck!!!

Cheers guys. The tempreture guage seems to remain at zero during motorway speeds, when town driving however the tempreture guage will rise to 80-90 ish. How much did you pay for a thermostat mate? Easy to do yourself?
May not be related but I have just had me air-con regassed, initially was cold but now only blowing slightly cold?? A leak possibly??

My VVt 1.8 does exactly the same, Mostly the temp gauge reads zero when driving but When the aircon is on, it goes up slightly. When I pull up to the house and sit there for a bit, it also goes up to about 1/4 (sorry did'nt look at the number) and goes no further regardless of how long i sit there.

I was not overly worried about this as my old astra was very similar.

Some of you guys reckon it's a faulty thermostat and the same thing had crossed my mind too.

Are there any 1.8 VVT owners out there whose temp guage works differently from this ?

edit: I tried the BC thing from the secrets thread which give you some engine data on the Radio display but did'nt work on mine. I remember that gave you the engine temp. Does this reading come from the same source??
