I have a feeling its against the law just to fit them, let alone have them wired up.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Its illegal to have them fitted, If they are blue lens even, with them disconected they are illegal, nobody is aloud blue lights or lens apart from the emergency services, All my lights are clear lensed as it would have been with thames valley but are completly isolated when its on the road, as im a member of a police enthusiasts club i have a code of conduct to abide by,
Impersonating a police officer is a SERIOUS offence...

    Vehicle : BMW 525i

    Trim : SE Touring

    Engine : 3.0

The downer in question is the 'SI 1989 No 1796: Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations 1989 (& Amendments)'.

In the regulations, lights, reflectors and reflective material are all classed as lights on cars (this means that the public cannot have blue reflective graphics for example).

Any colour light is OK to be on a vehicle if it is covered up or not connected up (excluding blue).

Only emergency vehicles can be fitted with a blue flashing light, or anything that looks like a blue flashing light, whether working or not.

Some of the rules do not apply if the vehicle has just been imported or is about to be exported, or if it is a visiting foreign vehicle.

Specifically, Part II, para. 16 :

    16. No vehicle, other than an emergency vehicle, shall be fitted with-

    (a) a blue warning beacon or special warning lamp, or

    (b) a device which resembles a blue warning beacon or a special warning lamp, whether the same is in working order or not.

For more info, have a read yourself at:

    http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si1989/uksi_19891796_en_1.htm

On a side note, quite a few people need to take note of Part III, para 27 - Restrictions on the use of lamps other than those to which regulation 24 refers

(Sect 24 concerns front and rear position lamps, rear registration plate lamps, side marker lamps and end-outline marker lamps)

My point refers to - 27. No person shall use, or cause or permit to be used, on a road any vehicle on which any lamp, hazard warning signal device or warning beacon of a type specified in an item in column 2 of the Table below is used in a manner specified in that item in column 3.

Short of copying the entire table, the specific point is :

Item 2 - Front Fog Lamp - Manner of Use Prohibited :

    (a) Used so as to cause undue dazzle or discomfort to other persons using the road.

->>>> (b) Used so as to be lit at any time other than in conditions of seriously reduced visibility. <<<<-

    (c) Used so as to be lit when a vehicle is parked.

    Rant over.
