Default Decent garage in berks? - suspected DMF

Does anyone know of a decent garage in the Berkshire area? I'm pretty sure my DMF is knackered. Car sounds rough as a badger's **** at idle and does the vibrating at biting point in neutral. Also occasionally makes a knocking noise when the clutch is rully depressed. Have also noticed more vibrations coming through the steering wheel. Off on my hols to the south of France in two weeks and don't want to risk it breaking. Broke down in France 2 years ago - wasn't fun.

I've phoned AA clark VX garage in Bracknell and they've quoted £1441!!!

Parts are £837. That's £451 for the flywheel, £125 for the clutch, £164 for the pressure plate and bits and pieces + VAT. Labour is £388 + VAT, which is about 5.5 hours at £72 per hour...

HELP! The price of fixing this is very upsetting.

Hi mate, Unfortunatley the clutch and flywheel are exspensive for the vectra, You can pick up some good bargains if you look on ebay and car parts connexion see this thread for what I paid. http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=104447

If time is against you why not try http://http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/Car-Parts, still expensive @£500 but cheaper than the £837 you've been quoted, Then find a good independant garage to do the work?.

Or if your looking for a really cheap fix what about this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWAX:IT You'd have to check if its for a 120 or 150 though and wether it's for a f40 or m32 gearbox.

Booked it in at my local garage for Thursday. Went to VX first to confirm it was the DMF. The mechanical put his foot on the clutch found the biting point and applied some gas - result banging from the DMF.

Local garage quoted ball park figure of £550 for parts and £39.95 per hour labour. Happy days (ish)!.

The mechanic said there was a Ford in the garage at the moment having the DMF replaced with a standard single flywheel. Unfortunately can't do it with the Vectras. Oh well. Looks like I'd better budget for a new DMF every 2 to 3 years... Crazy!

Thanks for the links btw! :-) Nice to know my local garage isn't screwing me too much over the parts.

To update on my local garage. Yesterday they phoned me up to say that they didn't realise my car had a concentric slave something or other que another hundred and something pounds. Total bill £1065, but still almost £400 less than VX.

Went to pick up the car yesterday and they said it wasn't ready. Today they called my at 4:40 to say that they had to travel 60 miles to find an oil seal/sill so car won't be ready until tomorrow afternoon.

Starting to get just a bit annoyed. VX told me it was a 5.5 hour job and the car will have been at my local garage for 2 and a half days!

I'm not paying more then the £1065 they quoted. Not my fault they couldn't find a part for a common fault on a mass produced vehicle. Grrrrrrrr. :-)
