Having changed from a Vectra B, 2.6 V6 CDX to a 56, Vectra C, 2.2 Direct Elite with 30,000 miles on the clock and now lived with the car for one month the net result is total disappointment.
The move was made in order to get a bit more economy and I did expect the power to be down a bit but the difference that only 400cc makes is unbelievable. The acceleration is pathetic and when kicking around town and on a run the MPG despite all the hype about direct injection is consistantly only 2 MPG more than the V6 would do.
The engine has all the sound effects of a diesel but without any of the advantages and what idiot designed a car where you have to take a front wheel off and the wheel arch out to check the oil level, in the power steering.
OK the car has lots of electronic gadgets but where is the heat reflecting windscreen, traction control and Xenon headlights that my V6 had as standard.
I wonder why Vauxhall bothered with this car especially with all the complications of direct injection.
All in all not impressed and if it wasnt for the fact that my wife likes the car and the seat adjustments I would be rapidly going back to a Vectra B.
End of rant.
