Default Vectra C one month on

Having changed from a Vectra B, 2.6 V6 CDX to a 56, Vectra C, 2.2 Direct Elite with 30,000 miles on the clock and now lived with the car for one month the net result is total disappointment.
The move was made in order to get a bit more economy and I did expect the power to be down a bit but the difference that only 400cc makes is unbelievable. The acceleration is pathetic and when kicking around town and on a run the MPG despite all the hype about direct injection is consistantly only 2 MPG more than the V6 would do.
The engine has all the sound effects of a diesel but without any of the advantages and what idiot designed a car where you have to take a front wheel off and the wheel arch out to check the oil level, in the power steering.
OK the car has lots of electronic gadgets but where is the heat reflecting windscreen, traction control and Xenon headlights that my V6 had as standard.
I wonder why Vauxhall bothered with this car especially with all the complications of direct injection.
All in all not impressed and if it wasnt for the fact that my wife likes the car and the seat adjustments I would be rapidly going back to a Vectra B.
    End of rant.

I'm with you on the 2.2 Direct mate - I had one for a few months and hated it after driving an old 2.2DTi Vec B. Now have a 3.0 CDTi and it outperforms the petrol in every way including fuel ecomony - by about 10mpg...

My old 2.2 Sri mpg wasn't much better than my current 3.2 v6 GSi but the performance is 10 times better

Swap it for a GSi mate, the missue won't notice if you get the same colour and you will have all the gadgets your vec b had and more

Should have gotten the 2.0T - the 2.2's cleverer cousin.

Not that much differences between the 2.0 T and 2.2

Sorry mate, not feeling the sympathy for you. It sounds like you purchased the car without doing any research. You're complaining your car has poor acceleration, no toys, sounds like a diesel etc etc - didn't you even test drive it before buying?

I bought a 2.2 Direct Signum a month ago and am very happy with it so far. Compared to my previous wheels (Volvo S40 2.0 auto) the Signum has better acceleration, is more fun to drive, cheaper to insure, and turns in much better MPG.

I guess satisfaction depends on your perspective

Without having friven the Volvo it's impossible to compare, but my V6 CDTi is a world apart from the 2.2 Direct I had... All about perspective, as you say...

The specs were fairly clear when you bought it! No one pinched the xenons while you wern't looking did they?

The heat reflective screen was removed due to the Climate controls sensor mounted on the dash, no need for TC due to the improved chassis (yeah right). The rest was penny pinching by VX other wise all the models would have the same specs.

I also agree with the engine, should have got a 2.0t or a 3.2 as the 2.2 is very similar in fuel consumption, although the one I had for a week didn't sound like a diesel.
