Yes, it just means they are approved by Porsche. Merc and BMW do the same.

must be, i would think a tyre is a tyre. just says porsche to charge a different amount

It just means they are maker approved.

EDIT: Those two tyres you have linked to are different weight ratings, 87y and 91y. The 87y are the cheaper ones, nothing to do with porsche.

what weight rating does the vec need? a CDTi one

Depends on the weight on the axle. Its stamped on your sticker on the drivers b pillar. What ever it is work out whats half and add about 30% imo for a minimum load rating. Not sure if thats correct though.

I looked into this a couple of months ago when I got some Flakes. My original 18 inch Bridgestone Potenzas were 95 load index, whereas as the Contis fitted to Flakes are 91. So when I saw some premium tyres that seemed a good price, the load index was 87 and I also noticed that Porsche was mentioned quite often. I researched the load index's and contacted both Goodyear and Michelin. They both advised not to fit as they weren't to spec for a Vectra and said it would also cause problems with insurance.
87 load index is 545Kg per corner, total of 2190Kg compared to Vec 1.9 CDTi being approx 1535Kg (models vary a little, this is based on my SRi and includes fuel and driver). Add some more passengers and put some stuff in the boot and you'll get up towards this weight. Then you have to consider the fact that when you corner at speed the load will increase further on one side. Compare this to a load index of 91 which is 615Kg, this gives a total of 2460Kg. I decided that the experts knew more than me and it wasn't worth trying to save a few quid if there were risks involved, however marginal they were.
