Default Info on phone line/broadband required.

Hi all i have an intermittant problem with my phone & broadband, it every now & again will drop its connection.
My wife was on the computer & lost connection, on the router there was a flashing adsl orange light and the home phone display was blinking away at me, lost time and date etc. I had to take off the cover of the master socket and try the test socket inside to re-gain connection but nothing.
I then changed the micro filter and hey presto got it back BUT my internet is speed is about as quick as a snail on speed.
Used speed test & got 0.15 download upload was 0.35 wtf, i have reported this to bt but no line fault was found so where should i be looking.
I did get a couple of trojans in the pc last week, i know this is a possible cause to slow internet but the phone line???
Im going to try a fresh re-boot on the pc after scanning it again and see what happens, idea's please if you would be so kind.

You need to check what your connection speed to the exchange is. You should be able to find this out from a page on your router. If you are not sure how to find it, have a look here for help.
BT's system can cause havoc if you plug and unplug your kit too many times as it sees it as a problem and drops the speed back by raising the SNR. Is a bit hit and miss as to how fast you regain your previous speed, it should only take a few hours but doesn't always happen.

Trojans and the like just slow down the pc not cause the ADSL to have a fit, though if the pc is trying to open too many connections this can cause routers to crash, Torrent and P2P software can do this also.
