    Default Manifold swirl bar/pots

I tried a few times on replacing the swirl bar on to the Manifold,it wouldn't stay on, the rubber washers would be wore out in no time and the screw caps would snap off.I noticed the swirl pots (I hope this is the proper name) where becoming looser and fumes would come into the cabin when the car was stationery, also the black smoke out the back end was serious.Last weekend I took a chance and glued(Gorilla glue, Tescos) numbers 1 2 and 4 in the open position,to the right as you look at them, this is were they sit when the engine is running. The car went into limp mode a couple of times the first time I tried it,the bar was still fitted,so I took it off and then it was fine and hasn't limped in a week. There is no smoke out the back now from what I can see or fumes coming into the car.To tell you the truth I don't really no what I've done but it seems fine now.

fine for now but basically the bottom line now is you really need a new inlet manifold as this will cause extra fuel consumption and other probs too

You could end up rite Winnie, but at the minute the car is driving well and this week the wife had the car, the average mpg is usually around 33 with her driving around the town, but from I done this last saturday it hadn't dropped below 37.

    evening,

i did the swirl pot fix today and noticed on my car straight away the car went into limp mode.. so i took it for a blast up the carrigeway...

still no good, the light shaped as a engine came on the dash

and some blue smoke could be seen

the car had a flatspot before but ran fine i wish i hadn't done this fix now

is it just burning off excess oil or has the engine been damaged in some way..
any help would be very appreciated

sorry to but in on the thread...
