    Default Front brakes grumbling

    This has me stumped!

When driving round town (30mph) and braking to a stop, for the last 10mph or so the brakes make a kind of grumbling noise that gets louder the slower the car is going. No vibration through the steering wheel and no "metal on metal" grinding noise. The brakes are working fine and neither front one is getting particularly hot. When I brake at speed (hard or soft) there is no noise and car brakes fine, remaining perfectly straight. I only notice the noise when driving in town so it seems to only be there when braking from slow speeds...

The pads and disks were replaced a while back (with genuine VX parts) and there is loads of disk and pad left.

I mentioned it to the garage when car was in for a service but they said there were no issues with condition of brakes (read as they didn't bother test-driving it).

Another though I had - could this be caused by tyres? I can't actually remember when the braking noise appeared as I had the pads and disks changed the same time as I got 2 new tyres on the back (and moved the rear to the front). Tyres on front are fairly crap (Accelera alpha or something like that) but still have 3-4mm tread left so I was hoping to wait a bit before changing them....

I'm happy to take the pads out and give the brakes a good clean but don't want to do this unless it looks like it would sort the problem.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

if the brakes are fine try changing the tyres back to the rear and rear to front. if the noise is still there then maybe it could be bearing??? which doubt, but if noise goes then it was the tyres mate other than that am stumpped
