Default "BEWARE" scam for anyone selling on autotrader

I got up this morning and had a letter from my insurance company advising that I had been in an incident on the 16th July...I called them up to tell them that this was aload of and that I was in all day that Sunday, any way they advised me that an asian man(they did give the name but unable to disclose) called them and told them that I had gone into the back of them in preston, lancs at about 8:15pm on the 16th july? now to the auto trader bit!!!

Ive got my Vectra in autotrader because I pick my baby Focus ST up on sunday so this has to go, any way I was on holiday in Primrose Valley for the week as of Monday and I get a call from an asian bloke asking if my car is still for sale? I told him yes and he wanted aload of details cos he wanted to HPI the car so I thought nothing of it and gave him afew details like the reg and my name

Hope you can see the connection now any way advised my insurance company of the call and they are sending some loss adjusters out to confirm there is no damage to my car and see what the damage to his car is? obviously they will be able to put the damage into context and see that there is no way I was involved also that I live in leeds and was in all night.

Sorry for the long post but this had to get off my chest cos im fuming right now and could have done without this just before getting my Focus, insurance premium is anyway and I dont want it to be any worse off.

    Cheers and be aware

    Darren

How did he think he would get away with it? Surely he's not that stupid to think that your insurance company would pay him without investigating the claim?

That's a new one on me... never heard of that scam yet. One of the cars on my dealer forecourt was once cloned, and we received a speeding fine for it, at the same time it was in our bodyshop having paintwork! This is a new way of doing it...

I am very careful with my registration number, it's so easy to get your car cloned. Any online pics of my car have the numberplate covered.

    Cheers for the heads-up though...
