Hi all going to give my car a service soon it's a 1.9cdti 150bhp with the mods listed on my signature I do about 17000 miles a year

I know I have to use 5w30 fully sythetic oil

but which brand I have alwas used in the past castrol gtx magnatec with my mg tf vvc I had and rate that oil to no end

Do I use the same oil again or what about castrol edge
or is another brand better for the veccy

also last question has any one used a k&n oil filter as they do them for the veccy and I am very tempted hope you guys can advise me thanks

I use the guys at Opie Oils a lot and have done since my days with the V12 BMW's I looked into the formulation and ester's in the oil along with Polymer leves present as what they taught me is that all synthetic oil's are not the same they might meet a certain spec but that is a low bar to jump, and, that with some careful shopping you can up the protection levels for the cold start syndrome easily.

In the end on my Bimmer I went with Fuchs Syntron GT 0w40 as this was the factory choice from Alpina so was ideal for the under stressed V12's offering maximum protection for a decent investment (Cheaper than Magnatec!)

Last time I spoke to them was with the Saab and and again they advised me well on price and spec, if you know Guy or Simon have a natter as they can do Purolator filters off the shelf, and they will maybe save you a few quid and guide you to a very high quality lube.

Vauxhall's "own" brand oil is about as good as you can get.

VX put Shell Helix 5w-30 fully-synth in mine for its last service. It's a good all-round oil, but it's not a proper 'high performance' racing oil.

If you've tuned your car and frequently give it some welly, then it could be a good idea to use a 5w-40 or 50 and change the oil and filter twice as often as normal.

The laughable thing about fully-synth oil is that 95% of them aren't fully-synth at all. Look at the price of normal fully-synth and then have a look at the stuff that costs twice as much! That'll be the 'real deal'.

    Yer pays yer money...........
