Default Fitting a V8 into my Vectra

    Hi Guys

Looks like I will be getting a bit of money in my hands by end of this month and so I now have the desire (and the means) to do something that I always wanted.

I want to fit a V8 engine in my 2007-Vectra-Exclusive 1.8 ltr. I'm not really that much worried about how much litre capacity the v8 has etc., as long as it's a v8, that should cut it I guess.

Has anyone done such (probably meaningless) thing - let me know where to get started i.e is there a v8 in the market I can buy ( I reckon vauxhall has their own v8, but the question is will it fit my current car )

    Cheers

    Raj

I dont know anything about engine transplants or whats involved.

But the only V8 I know of is the VXR8 and Monaro.

4.2 or 4.3 litre V8 (same engine as in the Corvette).. With supercharger develops up to 700 BHP

However, these are all rear wheel drive applications.

Are you looking at a rear wheel drive Vectra-C ??

Volve have a 4.4 V8 in their S80, which IIRC they claimed was the only transverse V8 in production:

Because of the size your definately going to have to mount a V8 in the Rear wheel drive fashion. You would also need to produce a torque tube along the centre of the car to fit the prop.

The hard bit would be the rear axles, as the easiest conversion is to buy the whole rear axle set up from a RWD car and pin it to the Rear of the Vectra.... Usually people use Jag drivetrains but I wonder how different the width etc is on the Monaro...

I can't see there being lack of space in the engine bay for a beefy V8, but it would take lots of lots of custom work!

I wouldnt even want to think about getting into the Canbus and half Canbus electrickery... I have no idea how engine transplants are done with all the new ECU's etc, I assume you would need all the ECU's from the doner car and possibly the clocks too....

I would be interested to see how you get on though... one of my dreams too

Cant you just buy a Monaro or VXR8? Probably be cheaper and so much easier? They go for stupidly cheap in my opinion.

But to have a V8 Vec will be unique and different. Probably more special as it something he wants and would be pretty much, his new design lol !!

Would like to see the finished result

Don't forget the Saabs have 4WD options on them - I'm sure it's been looked at one here before as regards retrofitting one. if money was no option it could be worth getting them together on ramps and comparing the undersides...

The V8's from the Monaro/ VXR8/ Pontiac GTO/ VX, VY & VE Commodore don't fit in an Omega so theres no hope of getting one in a Vectra.

GM did produce a 'one off' V8 Omega with a 4 ltr 'Northstar' (iirc) engine but this was shelved as they couldn't stop it overheating.

Apart from the fact it needs to be RWD this is the biggest problem.

If you do feel the need then the tried and trusted 'Rover' V8 in either 3.5, 3.9 or 4.4 ltr is possibly the best start as you can, as advised above, bolt the back end from a Jag onto it

The other option is get a vehicle with a V8 and a ladder frame chassis and bolt the Vectra bodyshell on it!

Wasn't the Vectra designed to have the 4wd platform that's now in the Insignia? or something like that!

I think there'd be an awful lot of messing about to get an engine/gearbox mated.... But having seen this stuff before in kitcars, I know almost anything is possible!
