Cheers

anyone with air con knowledge?
just changed mine on a 2006 signum which i think is the same a vec-c front what do you need to know.
think mine needs changing as the air con was re gassed 3/4 weeks ago and it gurgling already and not as cold
is it easy to change i was under the impression the air con gas was dangerous and not to be played with?
is there a way of de gassing it safley fitting unit and taking to get re gassed again?
ids1973 i changed the rad on mine and yes its slam panel then condenser looks very easy to do
remove the font bumper thats all then its right there for you
Attachment 32526lee, as promised picture of condenser with fixing bolt locations circled in blue and o ring location in red.
ps the pic is of the knackered condenser!
I'll hijack this thread if I may - for those of you who have replaced the condenser did you ever do a DIY pressure test?
Reason I ask is that our aircon leaks, it was filled up a few months ago and 2-3 weeks later it was back to empty again. It's getting warmer, so I need to sort it out, so I've had the bumper off today and carefully loosened the condenser seals and there was a 1 second "pfffft" of the residual gas escaping and then nothing. I took the condenser off, put my thumb over 1 hole and stuck a small funnel in the other. I blew in the funnel as strong as I could and the air was going nowhere. Take my thumb off, air comes out. Stop blowing, air comes back.
I'm guessing either the leaks are so minute they only appear under the high pressure of a sealed system, or the condenser isn't the part leaking.
Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts?
It also appears that my 1.9CDTi 06 doesn't have the version with a drier, which makes it cheaper, but it's still going to be a £90 punt to see if it's the condenser at fault.
um20, when i loosened the connectors on my one it also hissed but the amount of gas was minimal. the best thing you can do is get some flora dye (think thats what they call it) put in and check with a uv light and any leaks will glow green. my rad looked like it was radioactive! i have seen this in a diy can that you can put in yourself but can't remember where, but any aircon guy will be able to do it.
As a note prior to changing my condenser it held a vacum!!!! even though it was knackered, figure that one out.
The dryer is not attached to the condenser but is behind the rad bottom left, i didnt replace mine as tested ok.
I replaced my intercooler and i put it up ramps so i didn't have to remove spam panel and aircon rad. Not sure weather this might be beneficial for just doing the aircon???
Thanks Doubg, that's what I was hoping to hear! I've ordered a new condenser, I assume that it leaks under the pressure (hence why there's residual gas once the pressure gets too low) and my puffing isn't enough to duplicate it. Our existing one certainly looks knackered, stones all over the place. I might even do a How2 on it, it seems a common problem and the facelift bumper removal is different to the existing bumper removal in the How2 section.
