    Default CD70 Navi ICE Install

I'm deciding between what to do next as I can only afford one of my two choices before the summer, and the other after the summer- either a bootbuild sound system, or an MIJ exhaust.

I was leaning towards the exhaust last month but recently am hooked on having some better ICE.

I have a Signum with a CD70 Navi, is it possible to keep this headunit and still have a quality install with subwoofer and amplifier etc? If so, what would I need, and is it worth a DIY job for a first-timer like me, or to go to a car-audio place?

My mate is a chippy and so can knock up a good box for the sub and amp to fit in the boot. Space is a concern, so I would either need it to be removeable easily, or have it in the spare wheel well?

Has anyone done this before? Is any/all of this possible?

    Thanks in advance guys.

dont forgot for whichever sub you get check the thiele-smalls (spelling?) which will tell the volume of the box you'll need to make to get the best from it, trust me it makes a hell of a difference if you get it wrong!

How does it work for wiring it up, will an amp and sub just plug into the CD70 navi head unit? Are there any How2's?

Thanks for the info so far.

You will need an RCA Adapter matey... i think there about 4/5quid off the bay... simply take the head unit out cut the rear speakers and connect the rca adapter onto the cut rear wires from the head unit... and connect the earth to the earth from your head unit and jobs a goodun....

what does the RCA adapter do- get the signal from the head unit and then you can connect amp and subs to the adapter?

It just transfers the sound from the rear speaker channels to your amplifiers RCA inputs, but to tell you the truth at mid to high volume they are awful sound quality because of the sound being amplified twice, especially with full-range speakers connected to your amp. You really want a head-unit already with RCA Pre-Outs (Outputed before they are amplified by your head-unit)

Think I might have to pop to local Sextons and get a quote from them / see what they can do, as I think wiring up ICE is a bit out of my league from what I've read elsewhere about frying everything if I ****** it up.

Can anyone in the know give me an idea if this is reasonable?

I went to Sextons, said I had a Signum and wanted to have an amplified and subwoofer, but need to keep my OEM head unit and wanted it to be removeable to keep my boot space.

The guy recommended a Hertz EP2 amplifier along with a Hertz EBX200 subwoofer in a ported box. He priced it up at £70 for fitting, £30 for wire/cables/accessories, and another £300 for the amplifier and the subwoofer in a ported box.

I've never really heard of Hertz for car audio, but then again I haven't heard of many brands, are they any good?

And is this a reasonable price to pay for it to meet my requirements?

    Thanks if anyone can help.

I have just installed my system on a CD70. Sounds great. I used a Caliber LT6 to convert the high level to RCA's then into 2 JL Audio amps running a 12" MTX sub and infinity 6x9's on the rear shelf. The only problem I have is I used the aerial power feed on the headunit to turn on the amps remotely. Big mistake I have now lost my power antenna and radio reception is terrible. Does anyone know of any more switched sources on the headunit which I can use? and cable colours <Hehe>.
