    Default Kwik Fit - Cannock

Took the wifes Zafira in today to get the front pads done.

The garage who did the back (not kwik fit) a while ago advised me that the front were due in a few months so along I went....

The Verdict - front pads were not as low as first thought.

Bloke in Kwik Fit told me everything was fine for another 5'000 miles at least

    Fair play to them.

I wonder how may other garages would have changed them anyway?

Depends on what method they use for inspecting the brakes

Dealerships typically only see cars every two years and so tend to be over cautious, and even then the service may not require the wheels are removed to inspect the brake pads, visual inspection only
"Needs brake pads", but I ignore that until the warning light comes on
Even then I still have 1000 miles / 4 weeks left
However, I can usually feel the brake efficiency has dropped off before then

Every visit I have made to Kwik Fit or National Tyres, they insisted on removing the pads to inspect them
On my first visit to Kwik Fit (1996) the front brake pads crumbled, the rear shoes surface came away, and so couldn't be refitted, but they reckoned the pads and shoes would have lasted at least another 10K miles
They didn't have them in stock but would be able to get them for that afternoon
I returned just as the new pads were being fitted
Their head office had approved a 75% discount and the branch had applied a further 10% discount, I ended up paying just £15.00
I had owned that car from new and that was at around 75K miles
Ironically, those pads didn't last that long and the front discs had to be replaced the following year

The other thing I had in mind was their lifelong pads guarantee.

They will carry on replacing them as long as you own the car

They will use the cheapest nastiest pads available and wont replace them until there metal to metal. Its all a ploy to get people to come in for the deal then tell them there needing a whole load more.

I thought they used Mintex pads as standard?

Anyway In my experience, the level of service differs from depot to depot.

I am just happy to give credit where it's due.

I have never had a problem at this place.

They're all franchises... the standard of service and workmanship will difer between every one.
Personally, I have never had a problem with either National or Kwik-Fit in Shrewsbury, but many years ago my dad had nothing but trouble from National in Colindale, North London.
