little power 150 cdti

hi to all i hope you can help me my car
i was driving up the motorway when it through a fit the engine management light came on so i drove to my brothers and we cleared the code 2279 (egr valve leak) so i checked the egr and cleaned it out while i was at it then not used it for a couple of days
when i used it today the dreaded light back on same code and no power it takes ages for the car to build speed up it will rev when stood but slowly
i checked the egr for leaks with carb cleaner and no leaks
but the car has no power at all foot to the floor and it takes ages
what will happen if i take the egr of and put the blanking plates on
need help as its just a big pain

best off blanking egr off altogether with a coke can cut out a templte with 4 holes for the bolts then sandwitch it inbetween the egr outlet and manifold then run the car if it runs good you will have a engine managment light on then its def the egr thats goosed hope this helps

hi thanks for that i have made myself the blanking plates for the egr and exhaust pipe not going to pay £42 at regal but will this cause any running probs?
i will be getting it mapped out later but need it up and running cheers for any more info

will cause no probs mate will make your car run better only problem you will have is the engine managment light on if you totaly blank it but performance will not be effected once remapped out the light will be off too

right in that case i will try that tomorrow then i can live with the light on for about a week tho till it's mapped out just hope there's no major running probs but thanks for the help

a bit of a update replaced the egr valve with the blanking plates and still little turbo boost the car is going on the diagnostics tomorrow so i should find out whats wrong hopefully so should have more info i have also cleaned the boost sensor and that didn't make any difference

Have you checked your vacuum boost pipes the sticky thread at the top on here if you have a minute hole in any one of them you will loose all boost mate worth checking all pics are in the thread it's the cdti check your boost pipes sticky worth a read and check or even replace them any way as I found great improvements mate if that fails could be a hole in your intercooler or turbo pipes if it's just boost your losing and nothing else

well good news turned out to be a blocked air mass meter new one fitted from auto vaux £78 and a hour at the garage to find the prob just need to get the egr valve mapped out now and job done
we have the power

Good to hear mate yeah get rid of the egr and also vent your oil breather to atmosphere and get rid of
all the oil an sludge and hot smoke from going into your engine
