Only time will tell whether one is more reliable than the other
Last year virtually no reports of problems, then owners of the Y30DT (177 PS) started reporting a problem which was traced to blocked SCV

The Z30DT (184 PS) should have the later SCV so should not suffer this
However, the Z30DT is typically fitted with a DPF so consumes more fuel during the regeneration cycle

The engine is manufacturered by Isuzu, which means some dealerships don't have a clue about it
Other issues can be solenoids, etc. which are common faults with high pressure diesel engines

My Y30DT has had the original SCV replaced under warranty and that has been the only engine fault
All the other issues have been standard in common with the Vectra; switches, suspension, brakes

All diesels have swirl valves and as with all parts they will eventually fail
I'm not aware of this being a major issue on the 3.0 V6 CDTI though, it seems to be more of an issue on the smaller engines

    Just the usual VX weak points;
    suspension, steering, electrics

Look at the front tyres, outside shoulder wear is quite normal
Look at the rear tyres, inside shoulder wear is quite normal if the tryes have not been rotated, either as they wear or at renewal
They may be either 215/50R17 or 225/45R17, but they need to be at least 91W and ideally at least 94W (XL)

    Check ALL the electrics

The service schedule will be 20K miles / 2 years as it should have a Z30DT engine, so make sure the service book shows at least one service at about 2008 / 15K miles

The oil level should be checked with the engine slightly warm

Ideally, put the car through a MoT or at least have the suspension and steering fully inspected

When you take ownership put the car through a Hunters 4 wheel alignment
Not cheap at between £60 and £80, but that will make sure the camber and toe are correct, as all too often it is not and this rapidly destroys the tyres on the Vectra C

Iam an automotive technician so i can check the 4 wheel aligment at work, thanks for the heads up on the service intervals.
