Default Advice on new vectra c please !

    Hey everyone.

This is my first post here so hope im in the right place for this one.

Right firstly im not actually a vec c owner yet, Im very close to buying one tho.
I've had 2 vectra b's pre-facelift and one facelift model and i've never had any searious problems with them. Loved both of them too so now i've got my heart set on the 1.9 CDTI (120), really like the idea of the power to mpg ratio.
Problem is ever since i've started looking out for one i've heard nothing but bad press about them (clutch, tappit, turbo problems) all very expensive to sort if you get them as i understand.
Just hoping you guys could shed some light on this one for me as the few people i know with CDTI's seem to swear by them.

Also the poticular 1.9 CDTI vec c im looking at at the moment apparently needs a new clutch but he says its not urgent.
I'd be thankfull of any advice.

    Thanks for reading.....

If the current owner advises a clutch is due soon, then what else may it be due soon
    Service history is essential
Ideally, details of any and all warranty claims too

Get some quotes for third party warranties, check the level of cover

    I currently own a 2005 SRI 3.0 V6 CDTI now on 109K miles
My second car previous to that was a Vectra B 1998 SRI 140 2.0
I had that until 2004, disposed of it due to the erratic idle issue that was never resolved since 2002

These have been the most reliable cars I have ever had, my previous 2004 Mondeo didn't even make it to its first MoT

My only gripe with the current car is the poor paint finish
The bonnet has already been resprayed and now the front wings are going to have to be done
The paint just doesn't stand up to stone chips nor wear and tear very well

As a high mileage driver I expect high repair bills, but the costs have been about the same
The only issue there is that the 3.0 V6 CDTI goes through more tyres and brakes, but the actual costs are lower than they were on the Vectra B

If you read the test results and mag's the 150 is every bit as economical as the 120 and there may be a better selection of them as they are far more popular with fleets and companies.

As for needing a clutch I would be wary if that is the case as there are plenty fish in the sea.

hi i bought this exact car so here is my opinion. it isn't fast but you get good economy on a run so you have to weigh this up. it is a big car and they are cheap to buy due to there being so many about. as for what goes wrong i have put a rough guide of prices below the first 2 should have been done under warranty but if it needs a clutch it will need a flywheel as well so beware
    egr valve £100.00
    diesel particle filter £900
    clutch £300
    flywheel £500

    Thanks for the replies everyone.
The one im looking at has covered just over 107k
The seller is a friend of my farther in law so i doubt he'd not mention anything else.
I've got a good price on the flywheel and clutch change, just wondered what the chances were of something else expensive going so thanks for that pubcarking. I did actually want the 150 but this is a reall bargain with him being a friend of the family.
So settling for the 120 i've been thinking about the remap at some point.
