confused Just Sold My Golf, Buying an SRI

    Guys,

You've probably had these questions a 100 times but here goes:

I just sold my Golf GT TDI[140] and I'm now in the market for a Vectra SRI, probably the preface lift ones as I wanna hold back some of the cash from my own sale.

    1. would people recommend the 2.2 or the 1.9 CDTI SRI's?
    2. how do you tell a 120 bhp froma 150bhp
    3. did the preface-lifts come with sat-nav
    4. pointer to look at when buying - any common niggles/issues
    5. when are they due a cam belt change
    6. are the 19" VRX wheels hard on wheel bearings?
    7. ....if you have any other usefull info, please divulge

    Many thanks

1, depends on how many miles your going to do, but have a look at the 2.0t over the 2.2 and trhe 3.0v6 cdti.

2, oil cap on the right = 150, the only sure way to tell really (for a quick look)

3,Optional extra, but its crap. Get a tomtom

4, petrols ok, but all models suffer dmf problems and the diesels can have a lot more too.

5, 2.2 and 2.0t are chains, same with the 2.0 and 2.2dti's. The 1.9's are belts and are best changed (imo) at 40-60k although the book states a 80-100k interval iirc.

6, Not sure but iirc there were some different uprated suspension arms.

    hth
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Had a 2.2 dti pre face and now got 1.9 cdti facelift (150). to be honest I loved the 2,2 but the 1.9 is a completely different animal and imo would eat the 2.2 but thats only my opinion

DMF. make sure there is no rattles when the car is idling, if there is and it goes away when you dip the clutch the DMF is shot and walk away. Also ask if it has been done if it has done more than 80k.
The vecs are prone to breaking springs as well so drive it over bumpy ground and listen carefully to the suspension.

it has done 81k on a 2005 prefacelift model,

I've been told the TB, waterpump, thermostat have recently been done, as well as the arms/bushes in the back

Have a good read of the history and keep a defo check for DMF rattle. You may want to factor in the cost of one in the near future if it has not been done.

Not cheap mate. Between 600 and 1200 quid depending on where you get it done. Thats why i would be concerned.
I dont want to put the frightners on you but any high torque diesel with a duall mass flywheel suffer from premature death of the DMF. do a quick search of DMF on here for horror stories. Its not just the Vec's as Mondeo TDCI's are prone also and Peugeots etc etc.
