Default Finally an answer to the age old. What budget tyre question.

Having all of my direct debits and rent leave my account at pretty much the same time and discovering that my front tyres were near the legal limit i had to take the plunge today and buy a pair of budgets.
I was not exactly pleased about sticking some tyres i had never even heard of on the front of my car and was rightly worried.
First impressions were very very good, they seemed to handle as well as my pirelli's i had just removed and road noise was the same and after a quick search on the net when i got home to see exactly what i had just bought brought a pleasent supprise.
These Accelera Alpha 225/45/17 tyres faired very very well against some good competition in a variety of tests against some well known brands and for £50 a corner im over the moon.
Here is a link to the test and results http://www.carpoint.com.au/news/2008...test-2008-6873
The test is done over wet and dry conditions as well as wet and dry braking.

i have some accelera budgets on my after-market 18's and they are awful, terrible in the dry and damn near dangerous in the wet, they may well be a different tyre model in which case

You may have the Beta's. There not so good. Honestly cant complain about the Alpha's i have they are no worse than the pirelli's they just replaced and they are less than half the price.

People are too fast to write off budget tyres, but some are very good indeed, granted there are poor one's, but there are some premium beaters out there.

There is a lot of brand snobbery to be honest and i have been guilty of it myself in the past.
To think the last 2 pairs of tyres i have bought cost over £100 each and are no better than these budgets.

It makes me laugh reading through some of the reviews dished out by people who have never even tried them. I read a thread while researching these tyres where someone was bashing nexen tyres and they are made by mitchelin the very tyre he recomended.
A lot of budgets are made by the big brands and are just wearing a different name.

most budget tyres are made by big brand names but your forgetting one thing the reason why budget tyres are cheap is because they use cheaper materials diffrent grades of rubber and are built the the minmum requirements of safety.

also carfull miss daisy drivers will find no difference in budget or premium cos they don't push a tyre but boy racers and keen drivers will notice a difference.

I agree with the budget tyre thing I swear by Budgets that are proven, and Neuton NT5000 and Minerva (Rotalla) F105 so far are proving as good as any premium tyre

AVOID!!!!!!!! WESTLAKE they are simply put Sh**e worse than that if thats possible.
