Default "clunk" noise when taking foot off brakes

    Hi guys,

When i brake, reasonably hard...as im taking my foot off the brake pedal, a rather loud "clunk" comes from the front drivers side wheel area.

It doesnt do it when stationary, only when travelling along the road.

Has anyone got any ideas what this could be? its literally when the brake pedal is about half way back up again.

May be a ball joint. What sort of clunk?

    hi,
the last few weeks I also had a metallic clunk sound....
stripped down nearside front and eventually found the culprit to be a slightly weak / loose spring clip on the caliper (the one that retains the pad / holding the floating part of the caliper in place)
....bent the spring slightly to make the fit tighter on the caliper when in position and hey presto - no clunk. If the spring clips are weak the caliper can actually move when it bights the disc and it can knock against the disc itself
    Worth checking my friend...?
I am after a part number for the little spring clip if any body nows, &
    how much ?
I am going to replace both sides when I get some new ones

had a similar thing on a nissan primera hire car we had at work a few years ago, just as you were coming to a stop with your foot on the brake pedal, you could feel & hear the 'twang' which was coming from the front. the hire companies mechanics had a look & couldnt find anything wrong, neither did the nissan dealers.

as it was a hire car they replaced it, strangely with a vectra c diesel, never did find out what was causing the 'twang'. typically the replacement vectra then developed a fault, engine management light came on & lack/loss of power. had to pull over & turn the engine off, wait a couple of minutes, then set off again. used to happen a couple of times on our journeys, that was then replaced with another vectra, thankfully with no faults!

Its just like the pad getting stuck on the disc and taking a milisecond to pull itself off, like a metallic metal clunk noise.

    =/
