    Default air con help

hi everyone the timing chain jumped a few teeth on my 2.2 direct 06 reg a few months ago so was no longer running so i saved up and had the timing and balancing chain changed 4 weeks ago but dose anyone no if the garage that done the work would have had to touch anything to do with the air conditioning. the only reason im asking is that when i turn the air con on the noise from the engine bay is unbearable as soon as you switch the air con off the noise goes away but it works ??? so im a little confused any help would be very grateful

Could well be a coincidental fault with the air con clutch.

What sort of noise is it?

to do the timing chain, they would most likely have had to remove the 'fan' belt, the one that turns the alternator & aircon pump from the crankshaft pully. apparently the advice from here is that you should also replace the 'fan' belt & tensioner when doing a cam belt/chain change, the noise is either a slack 'fan' belt or the tensioner is fubar'd

when you turn on the aircon, alot is asked of the 'fan' belt/tensioner, which will show up as noises you havent heard before if they arent tensioned correctly or the tensioner has gone

firstly, see if you can get the garage who did the timing chain to re-tension the 'fan' belt, maybe putting some belt dressing on it too, worth a try before spending your hard earned!

im no expert, but the 'fan' belt is reasonably cheap, the tensioners are not! could be that your aircon may need regassing, not sure how you check this, but Halfrauds do regassing/checking stuff you can buy off the shelf & do it yourself.
