Had computers for donkeys years, built my first desktop myself and had laptops ever since. Always done everything myself but, never had or done a duel boot system, would like Vista and XP on a duel boot config. Anyone able to help with this please

Install XP first and when asked which hard disk to install to create two partitions. Install to the first partition. When fully installed install vista from pc bootup and install it to the other partition. When it restarts you should be asked which os u want to use.

    Hope this helps

Another option, depending on why dual booting, would be to run one in a virtual machine. It will depend on how much resource you need and which one you want to use most. The latest VMWare Player is free and you can build new VMs from scratch, includes USB support etc.

Alternately try using Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2... really easy to set up...

I'd forget Vista and just run XP or even better still Win 7, I have had most setups and Vista is nothing more than a headache if you want a smooth running system.

I have Windows 7 but still find problems, worst being it randomly takes ages to shutdown for no apparent reason.
My laptop has room for a 2nd hard drive, is it possible to add anoter hard drive and run XP from and be able to choose from Win 7 or XP on boot up?
