    Default 12v Cig Lighter not displaying 12v??

    I want a feed for a head unit (the car is a Vectra c 55 plate). I orignally wanted to take a wire from the ignition wire.. but I couldn't get the trims off . I then decided to use the 12v Cig lighter power.. however when I use a volt checker on the wire I recieve a reading of 0 all the time.. yet when I stick a mobile phone charger in, it lights up.. so it is working.. any ideas? thanks.

    More or less what Plasma has said...

    If you have cig lighter you'll have 3 wires.
    If you have the charge socket only (with the flap on), then you will have 2 wires

    Black = ignition live
    Brown = chassis / ground

    and the third wire in a cig lighter only (smokers pack) is
    grey/yellow = illumination for the orange ring and the ashtray.

    obviously you want to link up to the black!!

    ooh okay...
    I sit corrected.

    mine just has the power socket, no lighter, so no light, not even in the ashtray

    i found (after 3 years of ownership) this and connected it.. (was just lying around below the gaiter)

    But it might be different to yours.. as you light in the "ring" is at the otherside of the ashtray, as mine dont have the cig-lighter there, but on the other side.
