Default cdti 150 turbo lag fixed

alright about 3 weeks ago i decided i would chage the inlet manifold on my vectra as it had been spluttering on idle for a little while so whilst i was changing it i decided to clean out everything i could on the engine including the egr valve! Stripped the egr valve down and found the plunger to be seized so lots of wd40 later and bingo it was moving freely again and a 12v supply across the pins made sure it was popping up and down niceley!

So after fitting the new manifold (and putting in a blanking plate made from a coke can with a 8mm hole in the middle in the egr valve aswell to try keep the soot on the other side of the gasket to the manifold) she coughed into life first time! took it for a run and had two problems one of which was a leaky fuel pump pipe which was an easy fix but the other which has been bugging me since was the complete lack of power below 2k - 2.2k revs! This wasnt present before the manifold so i has the rubber pipes chaged from the vacuum box to the actuator with no joy! After it bugging me a lot and reading some posts on here i decided to just uncluip the egr altogether and take it for a run and guess what! "PROBLEM SOLVED". Dont entireley understand why it is now boosting at 1500 revs but it is because the egr valve isnt opertaing the solenoid back and forth openeing the gap from the exhaust into the manifold, which is why it wasnt lagging before the manifold change as it was seized up ( technically blanking it off ).

so my advice is if you are having the same problem with the lag give this ago! the car drives and picks up so much better now especially in 1st and 2nd gear! only problem i have is an engine managment light on but im sure that can be fixed by shorting the plugs wires together or something

They possibly could but I don't think they would. Some of them are a bit funny about this I think.

The EGR valve CANNOT be deactivated by a dealer with TECH2. Not on the 1.9 diesel anyway.

There was a release of updated software for certain petrol engined models that disabled the EGR, but nothing of the sort for Diesels.

Only way to disable the EGR is to map it out using the EDS ECU software from Regal or EDS themselves.

The EGR cannot be linked out either. The ECU looks for a drop in flow through the air flow meter as the EGR valve opens. If it does not see this, code P0400 will be stored 'EGR Insufficient flow detected'. For the same reason, the EML will illuminate if a blanking plate with too small a (or no) hole is fitted.

You should get an eml warning light, and yes performance should be affected very positively!
