Default FED UP with CDTI 150! Another EGR Valve fitted & Fiat Blanking Plates!!

    Hello folks,

Today I fitted yet ANOTHER EGR Valve to my dad's CDTI 150 and the Fiat Blanking Plates and cleaned out loads of soot from the entry to the Inlet Manifold.

Took a while to start up but when it did, chucked out loads of smoke.

Took it for a blast and seemed better, until about 1 mile driving, back to square one. No power under 1.5k RPM!

Im sick to the back teeth now as I dont know what to do next. My next stop is the Fuel Filter, BUT would this cause the underpower issues?

Also, im going to look at taking of the throttle body too, but again, would this cause this issue?

Where do I go from here and whats my next elimination item?

I have also changed the rubber pipes, changing the smaller one made it worse so reverted back to old, but left the one to the vac module above the Rad pack.

I am on my 4th EGR Valve, combination of New and Used and purchases from trusted members on here!

Im surprised your dad still has faith in you! He must be losing it with you tinkering with his car all the time and it still not right?

When mine was juddering, I was thinking crud in the fuel filter. Just cleaned out the inlet manifold circle full of crud today too.

You'll have to have a go with the fuel filter, this is not knowledge, just mere fact that these were similar symptoms I was getting too at the same stage also..

Gutted its still the same, but you really need to blank the EGR totally and see what happens.

If I blank off the exhaust side with a coke can, is that as good as the EGR not being in use then?

If it is still the same then I guess the problem isnt the EGR valve? Correct?

If you blank off the EGR valve completey and it's still doing the same thing then you are correct it won't be your EGR valve mate.

I've got a couple of things for you to try though mate (cheap - expensive):

    - Check all hoses (intercooler & turbo)
    - Change fuel filter (as you said)
    - Change air filter (either K&N Panel or standard)
    - Change all injector wiring (think you've already done this)
    - Change all glow plugs (everyone says that they are only used to start the diesel but mine was running rough as ****, got them changed last service and it was AMAZING)
    - Change boost sensor (yours may have had it even though it's clean)

If none of these fix the problem I think it's got to be something to do with the turbo or the manifold. Can't really be much else to be honest mate.

On another note....when you say there is no power under 1.5K RPM, how much is no power (stupid question I know but bear with me)? Have you tried building up the revs higher before coming off the clutch and see what happens? The turbo doesn't usually kick in properly until 2k RPM and it's as sluggish as hell when the engine is cold. Have you tried testing it when the engine is at running temperature?

Hope this helps mate, good luck

    - have checked most of them, but some are ****** to get to....have checked the vac hoses and dad's taking the car to a mate's garage on Friday to get it in the air and then rev and check for air leak's.

    - done the 3rd one, have got the other 3, but reluctant to chop and change all wires, unless some confirmation that this "could" be the issue?

Spoke to a dealer and reckoned its the manifold, eventhough the blasted thing had a brand new one 2 years ago.

OK, basically, when you take off and rev up to about 2k, and release the clutch, it immediately dies and the engine note changes and it sounds as though there is a something heavily pulling the car back! Then you get up to 1.8k and you feel the power unleashing and it goes like 5h1t off a shovel.

I have tried taking off at higer rev's, and providing the take off doesnt bring the rev's back uner 2k rpm, then its fine. its just the lower RPM.

Intake air leak at the manifold
I'm dealing with the same symptoms (but I get a p02279 intake air leak eror code if I leave it in engine brake from 3500 rpm). Might worth checking that.
