Default K & N, Pipercross or Green Panel Filter

OK guys. There are a lot of people here that have fitted K & N panel filters and have not had any problems. But I've read threads that say that they can mess up your maf sensor as well. I assume is to do with the oil in the filter? So is the risk worth taking? Also, what kind of performance inprovement might I be looking at? I know it's not much, but any ideas would be appreciated.

fozman, i put a cone k&n kit on mine and did get a difference in power and sound was good to but i also got a bit worried about MAF, then put airbox in with uprated panel filter in but didnt feel much difference in power compared to standard. I am just sticking to standard filter with 'airbox mod' and will replace every 6k miles rather than 12k

I put a pre-used K&N Apollo on mine, the filter seemed a bit oily but as it was the first one I'd ever seen I assumed it was normal. A few months later the EML kept coming on with various errors related to fueling (either over or under). I bought a kit to clean & re-oil the filter and gave the MAF a good soaking with isopropanol and it's been fault free since.

I did consider going back to standard... for all of five seconds! The growl from a V6 with this on is just too damn sexy, and the engine does seem to breath much better.

Basically, as long as it's not over oiled you should be ok.

Thanks guys. I've done the airbox mod to the bottom (i.e. taken out the removable plastic trumpet), but haven't touched the top of the box. Should I be thinking of cutting out the tube at the top as well or does it not make much of a difference.

If you buy a brand new panel filter you wont have a problem BUT if you clean it and re-oil it you could put to much oil on it then you could have problems.
