Default 19CDTi Hissing Noise under acceleration???

Noise started a few weeks ago and has got progressively louder, sounds worse between 2000 & 2400RPM, presumed it was a turbo pipe and have inspected the engine bay to look for perishing or splits but can't find anything obvious. Not massively competant around TDi's though so could definitely be missing something!

Can't seem to be able to replicate the noise when the car is at a standstill though, only when it is moving and drivers window is down.......

Please help....car is meant to be taking us on holiday next week!

    Cheers guys!

i'm sure i have seen a similar thread on here with similar issue and it turned out to be the intercooler had a split in it at the bottom. Its a bumper off job to inspect or replace it and i think they are about £180.

Or it could be the inbuilt blow off valve which therefore is a normal sound, but more likely the intercooler.

I had exactly the same hissing noise which turned out to be the top boost hose between the turbo and intercooler had a 2" split underneath - with a bit of luck it will be that and not the intercooler

Did read the other thread and went out to check the hoses but they all seem pretty good. Wondered whether there was sufficient pressure under boost to open a hole up that would then close as boost shut down and be invisable to the eye?

That route exhausted, think I need to consider the intercooler! Would there be anything in particular to look for? Dark areas? Fluid leaks? And would it cause the engine to run any warmer as it seems fine at present, no change in temp at all....

Your help and suggestions are appreciated guys, useful to just bounce theories off like-minded peope, cheers!

dark areas would be what to look for as there will be some oil mist flowing through the intercooler from the turbo and engine breather, but if it's split, you should spot it easily on the ribs of the intercooler. Trouble is it will likey be bumper side of the cooler, so bumper will need to come off to check. Shouldnt have a major effect on engine temp.

Cheers Barney, massive help! Need to go and have a look at the bumper, see what kind of a job it is getting it off!

    Cheers again.

Hi bud i had the same and it was the intercooler. Check the inside of the bumper and the radiator nearest the front and look for telltale oil/ residue from the intercooler just behind. £188 for the part from the stealers. I fitted it myself and it was easy. PM me if it is the intercooler and you want a hand changing it, I'm only in Barnsley.
