    Default Blanking EGR Valve

After battling with massive flat spost on 1st gear and PRAYING TO GOD that it has nothing to do with clutch, flywheel, etc. I've read in a thread here someone who manage to make a blanking plate for the EGR valve using a can of coke, thus solving the flat spots problem.

So today, I've tried that using a can of COKE ZERO, was really impressed with my "work of art" it looked very good, "very well done", I thought. Fitted to my EGR valve and started the car, went for a quick drive, nothing changed, so got back to my garage, took the EGR valve out again and there was a whole on the plate I've made....... I guess even the can is ZERO.

    Anyways, got one of these.

Anyone used one of these before?

Once is fitted, I will post the results here.

To blank the EGR you still have to let the EGR move. As far as i'm aware only the 2.2 can be blanked without a session on Tech 2. Here's mine.

AAAAHHHHH... That's why I got a hole on my proudly made blanking plate...

Anyways, will wait for mine to arrive and will try again.

    Thanks rushy

If you look at mine, the EGR hole is blanked and then the EGR is put to one side so the plunger can still move up and down, also the EGR is still connected to the loom so the ECU thinks everything is alright. On the 2.2 only the EGR actuation is monitored not the gas flow, if the 1.8 is the same then you shouldn't have a problem. The coke can method blanks a different part of the EGR system, on the 2.2 its on the side of the block where the gasses go into the metal pipe and then into the manifold.

Absolutely right. Will do exactly the same when I receive the item. Now, would you know how/if that will affect the emissions when doing the MOT? Is it worth going for an emission test after fitting the blanking plate?

    Thanks again man.

No mate, its not needed for MOT. To fix an EGR all VX do is blank them on the 2.2. The EGR system is only needed when the car leaves the factory to meet Euro 4 regs, as soon as it leaves it no longer needs the system.

This is the hole you blank with the coke can on a 2.2, to find yours just follow the metal pipe that comes from the manifold.

most blanking plates are available from the stealers too. The 2.2 one is only about £3.50 and you can fit a cheater to the 2.2 to remove the valev assembly completely if you want.

So will my 1.8 need tech2ing if I fit a blanking plate? Or can I just have it to the side like in the pic?
