For £4000 you can pick u a gsi in good condition, theres good low mileage examples around aswell. No major issues as long as you dont mind getting 250-300 miles for a full tank.

I call it enjoyable driving I get around 23 mpg. If your going on a motorway journey then you can expect it to be much better.

I got a warranty thrown into the deal when i bought mine. Oil leaks can be very expensive, early models with the smaller 302mm front brakes dont have a DMF and are better spec'd than later models.

There not really any major problems that are common its just your luck really. If you find a low mileage one with a FSH and well looked after then you will have a cracking car for the money.

2.0T Petrol all the way, arguebly the best engine in the range, good combination of fuel consumption and power, very tunable to if you wanna go down that route. HTH

Call me biased but i would also go for the gsi.
I've had mine nearly 3 months and i've loved every minute of it but i wouldnt buy one if your after a motor you can run on the cheap.
