    Default Water pump lube

    Hi guys my water pump well I think it is is starting to make a squeaking noise only on cold starts once the water temp gets to temp it's fine and makes no noise I was going to do my cambelt and water pump next year as I def can afford it this year as I have had to fix other things and car has only got 70000 miles so next year will have 85000 miles I will change it then

    is this squeak the water pump it's not constant but with a intermitment gap
    example don't laugh lol on tick over sounds like this
    squeak 1second pause squeak and so on basically each revolution of the engine it's not the aux belt that was changed a few 1000miles ago withthe alternator

    my question is should I add water pump lubricant to the system to try and stop the squeak or will it be ok till next year obviously if the noise gets worse or becomes constant then I will be changing it earlier

    You could try the lube and see what happens, you've got nothing to lose on that one, did you change the alternator tensioner when you changed the belt? The only other thing I could suggest is it could be a timing belt guide pulley with a dry bearing, try flicking the alternator belt off and see if the noise is still there.

    Thats cambelt noise you can hear, its the noise of the belt which is dry, You just as well stick a new waterpump, belt and kit on it now at 70k.
    Just had a 1.9 120 water pump failed in at work the other week, it was an 08 plate and only had 30k on it, 1.9 rubbish.!

    Your a full member!! Look in common problems section i think the fix is in one of the threads but i cant look in that section any more.

    i had this squeak on my 120, turned out to be the poly vee belt that drives the alternator and air con. try hitting it with some wd 40 while the motor is running, if the squeak goes then change the belt and check the idler pulley.

    my belt was changed to, then it started sqeaking, but i used a belt from the motor factors, once i used a genuine belt from the stealers, all was well
