    Default mpg and wheel judder

afternoon peeps. just a couple of questions for you. Had a couple of days of work so decided to go for a bit of a drive to see family in Yorkshire about 60 or so miles from me, anyway after returning home i noticed the average m/gal was only on 37mpg which i thought was abit poor. i expected it to be higher than that The motorway wasnt that busy so once i got off the slip road i was doing about 70mph in 6th virtually the whole way up there just taking it easy, then today went out to chester not far on the motorway but again took it easy going there and back and still the average mpg says 38.8mpg. have i got this wrong or would you expect it to be higher than this. Also on the odd occasion i had to overtake if i went over 70mph the steering wheel would judder, not a great deal but was noticeable, could this be as simple as the wheels req balancing? would appreciate some advice please, thanks

    Vehicle : Vectra GSi 3.2 V6

    Trim : GSi

    Engine : Z32SE

    Year : 2003

    Mileage : 256,000

What flavour of Vectra have you? 1.9 CDTI?

The steering wheel judder sounds like wheel balance to me, as it is speed-related. Otherwise if could be excessive play somewhere, like shock absorbers, suspension arms or steering track rods.

I can and do get 37 mpg out of my GSi 3.2 on the motorway...

sorry the model would help i suppose doh. its a 58 1.9cdti sri 150. dont really use the car all that much, mrs bobs round town etc so it does do alot of small journeys so i expect the mpg to be fairly low but after 2 days of motorway driving it have thought it to be higher.

should be a lot more than that i travel around 22 miles per day in total going to work and i average 47.8 mpg and thats on mainly 30 mph roads with one half mile road of 60 mph. Had my inlet manifold done last month but before that i was getting 42.4 mpg.

this problem didnt bother me at first as my last car was a focus st so was used to poor mpg. but after to speaking to other owners and reading stuff on here i do seem to be getting poor mpg even for driving round town. i know its still got 12 month wrrnty on it so i could take it to vx.
