    confused heater

Hi All. I hoping one of you Guru's can advise on a heater issue I have. My air con needs regassing which is on the "to-do" list, but more importantly I drove a few mile home this morning when it was a bit frosty and although the fan speeds are good the air temp is pants. I moved it all the way to hot which it then blew out some warm air then went cold. I turned the dial slightly less and it went warm again and cooled, and so on. Any ideas?

Plus if this helps, the temp gauge did not go up to 80 (it didnt move at all). I have researched a bit and quite a few people mention that the needle takes a long to move several miles etc. Hmmm, I'm thinking thermostat....?

Is it a diesel? These do take longer to heat up than petrols.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

    What car you got bud?
My 1.8 is the same. Keep it on cold until the needle eventualy moves, you get heat faster.
Like you say its most likely the thermortat or coolant temp sensor.

My 2.2dti temp needle used to take ages to move. I thought the thermostat was stuck open. I the thermostat and all new coolant it but it still takes a long time to get up to temperature. I think Diesel vectras just take a long time to get up to temp.
