    Default vectra 2.2dti tuning dilemma?

i need help to decide what to do with my vectra 2.2dti ..i ve seen some different views on here about tuning box and remapping etc...and to be honest im not that gtechnical minded and aware of what should and shouldnt be done with cars but just general knowldge! to note appprently the ecu is a hybrid engine or something and cannot be mapped...my mate says the tuning box will mash the engine up and that i will regret it later.....what to do?

all i want is an increase from the sluggishness to something that will give me good acceleration , better performance and better economically if poss on fuel....is that possible?

2.2dti s are not sluggish, and are very economical on fuel in standard form. I average 50 mpg on A roads and nearly 60 mpg on motorways as long as i keep my speed to below 70.

Perhaps yours needs a good service, tyre pressures checked etc.

I would save your money my friend. The 2.2DTi is not a very tunable engine and it costs a small fortune for a very small gain

I looked into the Steinbaur tuning box but they are not cheap. New about £300 to £400 and only give a few extra HP.

John Robertson on this forum has tuned his a fair bit so might be worth contacting him for info etc.

You need the CDTi 150 engine if you want to plug a box in for £150 with an extra 50hp or however much it is but its a huge difference.

The 2.2 is a reliable torquey engine but it will never be really quick. I'm happy with mine, I did the airbox mod but didn't notice any difference really

A nice wave of torque from 1500 to 4000 rpm and an average of 42mpg combined makes mine a keeper. And RELIABLE

However the choice is yours plenty of help and info on here.

    Jon

Do a search on this forum. You take your air filter out and remove a plastic cone sitting at the bottom off the air filter box. It allows the engine to breathe easier. Then replace your air filter.

clean out the cars inlet manifild first, and remove the catalytic converter, an see what its like, then once its breathing better look at tuning box thing

Many people said that its a problem to remap this car by OBD. But its not correct. Remaping via OBD will give you about 150 bhp / 320 - 340 nm. This is better then a power box thats only gives more diesel in the engine. I had two 2,0 dti earlier (almost the same engine), one with box and one remaped. I recomend remap.

I have a 2.2 dti and disagree its sluggish. You should give it a good service if yours is. I have done a fair bit to mine and really recommend a decat, it made a huge difference on mine coupled with a carbon airbox, big intercooler upgrade and straight through exhaust and 2.5" downpipe. Not remapped yet but will be doing this next year, there is a company called veizu that will do a bespoke remap on the dti engines
