    Default Air Con

sitting in a supermarket car park the other day and it was boiling hot outside, I have engine running to listen to the radio, etc. decide to put aircon on, so I press the button and it lights up orange and I know its on, 10minutes later my front door windows, and specifically my front windscreen have all steamed up and I cant see clearly out the windscreen, WTF??

I didnt have any of my windows open and my heater was set to cold air coming through the "face level" dash vents and out the footwells, it wasnt set to put air through the winscreen demist vents, and I didnt have the pollen filter or the window demist aid button on either, only thing on was air con.

its a 05 54 and I switch on the aircon for about 20mins a month while driving just so its getting used, as I know having unused aircon for lengthy periods of time speeds up the deterioration of the air con system. so I aint reckoning my air con unit is busted or at least I hope not.

Can you direct the air into the cabin father than onto the screen, may be that allowed the screen to mist up as the car interior was cold but the windscreen was hot as there was no air flow onto the screen as the car was stationary, just a thought, as when I put mine on auto I presume the air goes out through all of the vents.

Try a new actual pollen filter. It may be wet due to car washes? I kid you not.. I've been told that one myself. Told him What a load of bollox he was talking.

Anyway I changed it and it didn't steam up again, but that's not the point.

auto?? I dont have any auto on mine its only a basic special edition with bog standard air con not some elite with digital dual automatic climate control thingymajigger

Like I say, was sitting with engine running for about 10mins while stationary, had heater on coldest setting, on speed number 3 blowing air in through face level vents and into footwells, pressed air con button, and within 10mins the whole windscreen was completely misty.

As stated by Andrew above, put a new pollen filter in.

Yeah pollen filter dude, used to get this a lot after using car-washes in particular, but after rain or high humidity also. Use the air con all the time now for hot or cold and NEVER use car-washes anymore since I found detailing.
