    Default Brake Caliper Paint

    Hi all,

Decided I'm going to paint my calipers gloss black but just wondering what paint you all used/which is the best? I also need to paint the part of the disc brakes that are closest to the alloys (if you know what I mean) as they are starting to rust with weathering already. Can I use caliper paint on this bit too?

    Your help is appreciated,
    George

For me it has bee Hammerite smooth for calipers and in the past maybe 20 years of different cars it has never failed and still cleans up perfectly, I shall be buying some for the Vectra once I get the chance and see no real need to change now

Wasn't impressed wit the smooth Hammerite when I used it the other week to tidy my discs up, went tacky on the top too quickly and needed stirring too much...
I've used Halfords caliper paint on my last 2 cars and found it excellent...imo. Goes on nice and easy, not tacky and touch dry and recoatable in an hour so easy to do car in a day with 2 coats.

Think hammerite can be hit and miss... (but i always use it/can always thin it down with)

Bought 4 different colours of smooth finish and the consistency was different on each. yellow was like treacle and so hard to paint with!

My silver was poor, fortunately I was only doing discs, like you say thinners would help.

I can't remember where I saw it, but someone had painted their calipers and drum bits of disc brakes the same colour and I thought it was too much colour in one place.
If I do my calipers in gloss black, then thinking about keeping the drum bits alloy colour or dark grey like the colour of the disc brakes. What do you all think?

Sounds great, gloss black will look good with silver
