Default Help, drilling locking nuts off.

I got my replacement locking nut key this morning ( very fast from vauxhall, around 16 hours from ordering.
I took it to Kwik Fit to see if they could get my locking nuts off. They managed to get one off, but the key started waring down after a few tries. It seems like the key part of key is made of lead or something cos its too soft.
Anyway, KwikFit didn't have an airgun to try, and I'm not splasing out £32 for another replacement key, so I've got my drill out of the garage.

Any recommendations as to what size drillhead to use? Think I've only got a 10mm Metal head the rest are too soft.

The nuts need to come off. If I get a punture or something, then I'll be stranded.

Anyone done this before and can give advice/precautions before I go ahead?

    Thanks

Dont do anything today, a couple of the lads here do know how to get them off, dont think drilling them is a good idea, you might end up needing new stub axles if you get it wrong.

Agree with VV, wait until Plasma and Mark (GSI3.2) see this mate, they are the experts and will tell you EXACTLY how to get them off.

Your local ATS might be able to help as they have tools for this very job

Have a look at the bottom item here.....

    http://www.lawson-his.co.uk/scripts/...emoval%20Tools

This is what I've used in the past.... basically you drill a pilot hole for the tool, it has a left hand thread, so as it taps its way into the bolt, and grips, it gives you enough grip to get the nut out.

Thanks for your replies guys, KwikFit didn't have an airgun, so I took the Stig's advice and went to ATS in another town, and they had an airgun, and after about 10 minutes per bolt, managed to hammer and airgun the ******s off

Such a relief, I could kill the previous owner.
    Thanks again guys
