Default Display & cd player problem - help please

hey.. got a problem that i hope someone can help with.. the display above my radio stopped working around 2/3 months ago but it wasn't top of my list with the mot/tax coming up at the time so i left it but now the battery bit the dust (had to get a new one) and the radio won't come back on (guessing it just needs the code?) but with no display what can i do? it's really starting to get to me now.. its shocking driving without the radio/cd player lol.. i've almost resorted to taking out a portable cd player lol.. please can someone help me sort the dash + cd player.. i'm begging at this point lol..

btw its an 03 pre-facelift vectra-c 2.0dti (if that helps at all lol)

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP

your problem without a screen is even if you do manage to get into a postion of attempting to enter a radio code you have no way of confirming what the radio says before you confirm it ...so you could end up locking the radio ..... you need to establish the reason your screen failed - tehn you can enter the code

Don't suppose you checked the obvious free stuff like the fuses...all 4000 of them...well not quite that many but if it helps, just check these in the end of the dash panel.

    Fuse 1 = Entertainment Head-Unit
Fuse 4 = Accessory (where fitted)
Fuse 7 = Display and Instruments - Via BCM
Fuse 9 = Display and Instruments - Via BCM
    Fuse 10 = CIM module
Fuse 12 = Overload protection fuse...very common failure. (BCM)
Fuse 17 = Instruments and Display - Via BCM
Fuse 26 = Instruments and display

lol.. i might have to give it to someone else to have a look at then because i'm out of my depth with any of this electrical stuff just wondering though.. if i get a new cd player/radio will it work ok? thanks for any advice..

edit: @ robsey.. i checked all the fuses under the bonnet beside the battery and they all seemed ok.. (not sure of what numbers they are though) and i've no notion where the ones inside are because where i thought they would be i couldn't see how get to them lol..

    Wrong fuse box...
Look at the one at the passenger end of the dash panel...
You will need to open the passenger door to see the plastic cover panel.
It will have a sticker on regarding the airbag, but the airbag is in the dash not behind the panel.

Just pull out the plastic panel (firm tug with your finger) and your fuses are in there.

No problem...the bag is above the centre of the glovebox...in the upper section of the dash panel...absolutely no chance of setting it off accidentally.

Did you do anything at all three months ago to the car...it may have some relevance to your display problem!! such as -

Screen plug left undone / loose....
very common one is changing the glove box bulb...loads of people have blown fuse 12 doing this!!
