Default Brake Pad change. Advice + How2?

A few months ago, the front brake pads needed changing on my Vectra C, so took them to a local garage, and got non-genuine pads put on. They have squeeked ever since, I lef tthem a while to see if they'd need running in, but now they just really get on my nerves. The wheels are always dirty with brake dust too.

I'm considering getting new pads and maybe even discs, and I wanted advice.
    I've got a 52 plate SXi 1.8
Which pads/discs would be good without breaking my wallet?
I've seen a few links on the forums to a couple of manufacturers saying that green and red pads are good, but can only find for the 3.2

Would they be possible to change myself, or take to garage?
