    Default cd70 help !!!

i have recently fitted a cid and cd70 that i purchased from ebay, it didnt come with a gps aerial so i bought one of the fakra ebay ones, it also never had a disc which i now have but when i go to the map it doesnt show up hardly any roads on it just a few round glasgow but not many and when i try to start the navi it just keeps saying calculating route ??

on the main screen it has the word GPSunhighlited with a line through it, the disc i have is a copy of the most up to date one

the gps seems to work as the arrow shows on the map and moves around i just have no roads

any help ? is there something im not doing ??

no roads at all??? If its just a few roads then it sounds like theres isnt many maps for your part of glasgow.. Is it a UK map disc your using... ? If it cant pinpoint where it is or your not on a known road it wont be able to calculate your route as it doesnt know where it is...

I would have thought that GPS with a line through it means GPS is not running?

i think some guys suffered from the location of the fakra antennae, some just put it behind the cid and some feed it out towards the wheelarch somehow to help it get a better signal.,.

mines just in the glovebox at the moment, when i look on the map it shows my current location which i know is correct but i have no roads at all around me

i browsed to glasgow and it only shows about 3 motorways

the disc is a copy of the 09-10 edition

can someone with a cd70 confirm that they can see roads on the west of scotland (b roads aswell not just motorways)

GPS with a line through it means insufficient signal or not enough satellites to get a good fix on your current position / location.

Try putting the sat nav on the dash with a "clear view" through the wind screen.

On my cavalier, it is on my dash, near my tax disc...on the wife's vectra-c, the aerial is in the hole under the speaker grill in the centre of the dash.
Both vehicles have excellent GPS signal reception.

If it not showing many roads, just a few motorways, then it sounds like your map is NOT a uk map...possible a European country...Benelux, France, Germany etc...with major roads of western europe!!

As above with Robsey.. Could well be a European map and not a uk one... Had a similar thing when I tried a 'uk' disc over in germany... only a few of the main roads were showing..

A couple of years ago but I was up in Oban with my vec and the UK & Irelandonly (2008 version) map was spot on down to unclassified road level.

Sounds like you need to locate the aerial in a better position as suggested.

When i was having probs with my gps signal i had to give the fakra antenna a few turns at the back of the cd70 as it seemed to be a slightly loose connection..I now have it taped at the back holding it in position and now get signal after a few seconds...Just had a look at my 09/10 map disk and as said above all roads are on it...Try locating your antenna to a different place and give it a few wee wiggles at the back and see what happens...

Regarding my little square mag mount GPS aerial, I recently moved this to the hole in the top of the dash where the telephone speaker would be.
Moving it here has greatly improved GPS signal and positioning accuracy...
the picture below shows its location.
The screw you see on the left is holding a small metal plate on which the mag mount aerial is "stuck" magnetically. The excess sat nav wire is coiled to the right of the aerial block.
