    Default "Tight" engines

I am not familiar enough with the 1.9 and 2.0 CDTi engines to know about the tight period, in VW and Merc's they remain tight for about 25K and by 40K are really in their stride, whats the gen on the Fiat engine? My new aquisition has 18K on it and on the test drive had that familiar tightness compared to a mates Alfa 159 1.9 Jtdm that at 40K feels quite "potent"

Give it some throttle - it'll soon loosen up. Never really believed in the 'tight' / 'running in' thoery. Had a Mondeo TDi new in 2002 and it ran pretty much as good at 00010 miles as it did at 80000 miles 3 years later.
However, what I did though was run it up and down the M1 at least 2 times a week from new and I'm sure that contributed. Poodling around the town does nowt for an engine regardless of fuel type.

Don't worry it will get that from me, it just seems that a lot of new Diesels are quite tight and take many tens of thousands of miles to get into their groove.
