Auxiliary belt squeak!

Greetings all. Has anyone replaced their auxiliary belt tensioner, if so, is it a diy job? Ever since my crankshaft pulley was replaced the belt has squeaked, especially when the air con is switched on. Any advice or pointers would be appreciated. Thanks, Phil.

BTW, it only happens at idle speed, and it's a 2.2 dti.

Yeah easy diy providing you've got some female torx sockets/spanners, make sure you change the belt at the same time and check the alternator pulley isnt goosed as they are a clutch pulley which quite often seize up causing the belt to skip around a bit.

a chap in my street has a 2.2 dti and his belt is so loud and annoying its bin like that a year and he doesent replace it... i jus wish it snapped lol

Chances are it's not the belt. The DTi has a hyraulic tensioner that tends to sieze. About 50 quid from a motor factor

Cheers, I think I'll get my local man to do it. I can see me loosing knuckles otherwise.

BTW, on some earlier posts, some have said that since they had the crankshaft pulley replaced, the engine has sounded different at idle, a bit rough even. I've got exactly the same thing. Anyone know why that should be?

I would think just having the sound of the dti is enough to annoy the neighbours!! To be fair to Vauxhall, it's been a great car, it's just a shame the engine seems to lack the refinement of the rivals, although on the motorways it seems very quite, in fact it's probably one of the best motorway cruisers I've ever had, just a bit noisey around town.
