Question Temp Guage - But already replaced :(

    Hi guys,

I had the Thermostat replaced last winter as the guage would drop to zero and bounce back up again and since doing it i've had a steady 86oC all the way.

However in the last week i've noticed that when driving in traffic or if giving it some stick the temp guage will go up to near 90oC and then fall down again when on the move.

However when driving on a motorway or long road it will sometimes drop to around 83oC

Could it be the recent weather affecting this, as its stuck on 86oC normally since I got it i'm sure (but I did buy it last August and we know what the British weather is like ).

    Its a 1.9 CDTI 150

    Thanks in advance guys

I should say I've done all the usual checks like fluid etc (and I searched the forum for answers but couldn't find this problem).

Try the coolant temperature sensor. Mine had a very similar if not identical issue and this cured it. It isn't an expensive or labourious task to change it.

Cheers guys, doesnt seem to cause any running problems as such and im starting to believe its actually just the weather to be honest with it being a bit warmer.

I only changed the temp sensor the 6 months ago, and unfortunately for the 150 cdti you have to buy the whole unit which is £50!

If it sounds about right i'll leave it for a while and see how she goes
