Exclamation help neede with anoying noise

this has just started over the last week, its like a metal on metal sound,
if i press the clutch to the bottom the noise stops, if i let it up slowly the noise comes back, this sound also does it when im driving, but not all the time, most of it tho

    Hi,is it a diesel?

If so sounds alot like a dmf fault, does the rattle or noise occur on start up and most importantly shut down?

sounds like an exhaust heatshield has fractured on a fixing mount - (probably rotted through on a bolt) over the past year i have slowly removed all bar the front shield as they have broken loose

just find the offending shield and pull it off

no vibration from the engine as the clutch is in ... its not under load-it took me a week to identify the first one on mine ... it was very infuriating- then when you realise the noise you know what to look for

fly wheels and clutch on the way out mate it's common on the 150bhp diesels, vauxhall won't recognise it as a fault though even though they all do this at around 55k so should be covered by the warrenty, the gearbox etc was fiat sourced need i say any more

Engine is Fiat's and, like the gearbox, it's fitted to lots of cars. Gearbox (F40) is GM's and is made in Germany (Ruselheim) I think. It's also fitted to Saab's, Alfa's, Lancia's etc.

DMF is the 'weak link' in the transmission. .

you need to jack up one side and then grab the heat shields the length of the exhaust around their mounting nuts and give it a wobble - then if you dont find the offending loose broken bit try the other side - if its not doing it all the time then i suspect the middle section will be the problem
